BIOGRAPHY

Piotr Dec is considered as one of the most exciting young clarinetists of his generation.  

He is a first prize winner of the International Yamaha Clarinet Competition in Manchester (2018), a laureate of the first clarinet prize at the Solo Woodwind Competition, held at the Royal College of Music in London (2017), winner of the National Polish Clarinet Competition in Wroclaw (2013) and a recipient of the prestigious R.C. Wyse Bequest Award  (2018). 

 

In 2018, Piotr successfully made his professional debut playing solo Weber's Clarinet Concerto No.2 with the Milton Keynes City Orchestra, alongside conductor Damien Lorio at the Venue, MK. 

 

In the same year, he appeared performing solo twice at the London's Royal Albert Hall with his duo partner, pianist Edyta Lajdorf, further have had an immense privilege to perform for Madonna and David Beckham. 

 

He recorded contemporary music works of British composer Errollyn Wallen for the BBC Radio 3 and has been featured solo on a recording for Chinese Berita Global television (BGT).  

His musical appearances include London Contemporary Music Festival, London's Summer Arts Exhibition at Royal Academy of Arts, Banstead Arts Festival, Purley Festival and respected venues such as: St. John's Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields, English National Gallery, National Portrait Gallery, Southbank Centre, St. James's Piccadilly Church, Foundling Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Dukes Hall, Regents Hall, Hull City Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin, Kuwait's Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Centre, National Polish Philharmonic in Warsaw, National Forum of Music in Wroclaw, Wroclaw Radio and Television Concert Hall, The Grand Wieniawski's Theatre and many more.

 

Together with soprano Jennifer Coleman, Piotr was a two-time finalist of National English Song Competition, performing rare works of Arthur Bliss.

In 2015, collaborating with Dr. Caroline Potter from Kingston University, he made the world premiere of Satie’s Furniture Music at the Southbank Centre in London. He performed Sir Arthur Somervell’s rare Clarinet Quintet at the 'Exploring the Archives’ concert at the Royal College of Music and in the same year he received a scholarship to work with artists from the Vienna International Music Academy and Berlin Philharmonic Academy. Several contemporary music works ,such as clarinet concertos and miniatures with piano, have been dedicated exclusively to Piotr, namely by Lara Poe, Amy Bryce, or Jim Lahti. 

 

As a professional orchestra player, Piotr performed a number of times with Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, West-Side Sinfonietta, Royal Air-Force Band, Ensemble X, Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra and others. 

 

Piotr is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he completed his Master of Art degree under the tutelage of Mark van de Wiel and Angela Malsbury (2018). 

In 2017, Piotr has obtained Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the Royal College of Music in London (RCM), where he studied modern clarinet with Janet Hilton and Barnaby Robson, as well as classical clarinet with Prof. Colin Lawson CBE and Dr. Ingrid Pearson, generously supported by the Worshipful Company of Musicians and Concordia Foundation.

His musical education extends to private tutelage with Ms. Shirley Brill, who is his greatest influence, and participation in numerous masterclasses given by: Philippe Berrod, Julian Bliss, Patrick Messina, Andrew Marriner, Karl Leister and Wenzel Fuchs.

 

Most recently, Piotr started working extensively on releasing his debut clarinet album and its premiere has been scheduled for June 2021.
